Makeover #2

01 Human Formation
18" X 24" Acrylic on Canvas

The idea for this painting dates back to I think 2003. :-) I was then in grad school rooming with a coupla students from the Architecture department who were, naturally, artsy. I was not much into art then but really wanted to be. I loved colours! One evening we just sat around the living room and the two of them were painting. Since I couldn't paint then and didn't know what to do, I randomly came up with something like the above on a sheet of paper. It came out of my mockery at how artistically challenged computer scientists were, and the painting was supposed to be a depiction of a human acrobatic formation composed of 0's and 1's (the stick men being made up of circles and lines). That piece of paper, actually a fairly big one, traveled with me when I moved to Baltimore later, and then to the West Coast from there, though it was in tatters and had tape holding it.

Last year I decided to reproduce it on canvas but I did it in the midst of a lot of work and wasn't fully involved. The result was obviously not good. When I looked at it later, it had too many colours, felt gawdy and the idea was lost somewhere in the depth of the numerous colours.

So this is my recent makeover of it. It's intended purely as a fun piece!

Very nice concept! I can't imagine how it could have been gaudy before :). Where were the extra colors...the background?

Its a great thought! There's a lot of potential in the visual. Somehow I feel you could develop on this concept and churn out a whole series out of it!
