I am sure many of you know Mia (Mia Wallace) from the awfully trippy movie, Pulp Fiction, by Quentin Tarantino. Uma Thurman stars as Mia, a very attractive junkie with a lot of nerve and mystery about her. This famous picture, in my opinion, brings out the essense of her character in the movie- the cool, don't-care attitude and a certain undefinably strange calmness.
Following method in art is certainly not my forte. So I just took a huge canvas, marked out some rough outlines, looking at the album cover. I didn't really get into details and unfortunately lack the patience to use grid/axis techniques, which is the sensible thing to do. So this is a far-from-accurate portrait. To make it harder, this was my first attempt at using oil colours and I've got to tell you- it sucks ! (LOL) After having used only acrylic so far, I found it extremely unmanageable. And I simply hope my husband doesn't notice those little blotches of paint on the carpet (shhhh don't tell him!)- all this inspite of the dropcloth! The paint spreads and spreads and sticks and sticks!

Anyway, here's my first oil painting - on a 18" x 24" canvas. I started this almost 2-3 months back and abandoned it for a very long time since I got busy. I finally got the time to finish it last night!
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Mia...

Awesome attempt!! Super, considering ur using oil colors for the first time.
But I think the face is bigger than it should be (lil disproportionate) and those streaks of color on the neck look a lil odd. Otherwise, great!
the streaks are shadows. I don't feel they look odd actually.
yeah the face looks bigger- i saw it in the photograph only after you said. I am trying very hard to get a better photo. When we look at the actual painting it doesn't look so big but something about the way I am holding the camera is distoring it a bit and elongating the face too.
It;s very difficult to take pictures of paintings, especially big ones! :-( my hand also shakes so much! sigh
Hmm... but I must say the face by itself has come out very well! Eyes are very expressive!!
your Mia is horrible! I looked at the pictures before reading the text, and thought it was some kind of joke like Ugly Mia..or Mia after 10 years on drugs..or dark side of Mia :)
I didnt know it was "Mia painted by somebody" :)
Thanks for your "feedback" !
