Much Obliged, Jeeves

I read my first P.G Wodehouse. Many of you may be surprised by that, I mean by the "first" part. Well, I must say I am glad I escaped the experience all these years! Sorry if I'm offending the sentiments of any of those ardent fans of Wodehousean humor, but it's just not my cuppa tea!

The book seemed to have no substance at all, and if I am asked to think of an adjective to describe it, the adjective 'gossipy' pops out immediately.

It's not so much that I entirely lack taste for British humor or such, but it's just this man. He walked all over my nerves through the whole experience. His forgetting words and going into digressions got tiring and annoying even before I reached chapter 2. But I must give myself the credit for having finished the book, which gives me a just license to write this review.

I'd never venture reading a P.G Wodehouse again.

Oh wow Sumi, I'm so sorry you had such a distasteful experience with Wodehouse! :( You're right his books don't have much substance but it's his writing style and sense of humor that are the hallmarks of the plots.

I admit I did rub my eyes twice while reading the post to make sure I was indeed reading what was written :), but hey if it's not to your liking it's not. I do appreciate you reading the whole book despite him getting on your nerves so much! :) You gave him more than just a fair shot!

P G Wodehouse fans are a legion. His books may not have many 'stand-alone jokes'as I put it. It is only when you enter deep into the characters that you begin to see the humour of unimaginable proportions(I don't read read his books in public for fear of being labelled a crankpot).Take a fresh look. May be I will find a convert shortly. Your sentiments are respected. Give PGW another try. Cheers.
